Spending the New Year alone...

New here and relatively new to Calgary as well. I'm looking to meet people with similar interests online and offline. I've been slowly going mad with the lack of people to talk to and hang out with. I'm not an overly social person, but its lonely when you've left your family and friends behind.

Please, take a look at my profile; if you like what you see, feel free to friend me and perhaps we can talk sometime. :)

Okay all you cat people...
Amigone and I took in deidre23's Harley, but we have been evicted (without cause because our landlord supposedly didn't know our suite was illegal) and we have to find a different home for him because our new place is almost all carpets and we don't own a shampooer. We were fine here on all hardwood, but now...well his accidents are not a good match if you are mobility impaired and trying to clean up after him. *sigh* As much as it breaks my heart, we are now activly home hunting for him, as we don't want him going to the shelter.

If anyone can help, please reply ASAP. Thanks...

Where to start...
So, because I have a Pagan background.. well before the Christians came up into Holland, I decided that I'd be Pagan years ago. But, I haven't practiced anything Pagan. Saying "I've never had the time" is always a handy excuse but it's so worn out that even the glue holding together what remains of it is crumbling. I thought I knew a bit about my background, but unfortunately I know little. I also found out that I come from a mix of beliefs. Way back when when my ancestors were riding chariots, raiding and swinging axes they used to believe that if you died with honour in a battle, then you'd drink the beer out of the skulls of your enemies at the table of Thor and Odin. Despite this, there were also beliefs in goddesses and certain spirits. Some of the ones the Celts believed in. (Though I couldn't name offhand). And we have a bit of a celtic background. It's confusing I know. I'm Friesian. One of the 100 nations of Europe and a speaker of one of Europes minority and endangered languages. There is now an effort going on in Europe to preserve these cultures and their languages. So I'm slowly learning about our true history - my true heritage.

To get to the point, I want to know more about Paganism but from reliable resources. I can walk into many bookstores and find books about the subject, but I had a Pagan gf warn me about a lot of made up or unauthentic reading material.

So yeah, if I'm gonna call myself Pagan, I'd better start BEING one. I also missed whatever events and gatherings in this city.

Please help if you can....NOT SPAM PLEASE READ
***NOTE TO MODS*** I am sorry if this is not allowed. Please accept my humble apology and delete.

Two days ago three year-old Alyson Hoy was run over by her father's pick up truck as he left in haste for work and her mother thought she was in the yard. She livesin the small village that I grew up in, Horsefly BC. Medical care there is not prepared to deal with a MAJOR trauma. She was rushed by jet to Alberta Children's Hospital, because the hospital in Vancouve does not have a bed. Her parents, who I grew up around, because they are good friends of my older brothers, are now in Calgary with her. Alyson suffered major internal injuries, a lacerated liver, head trauma, a fractured pelvis and a shattered femur, among other things. She is now in traction, while we wait to see if her leg will need to be operated on before being casted so she can go home, first to hospital and then home, but with rehabilitation. But most important now, is that she will live.

However, Alyson will go home in a body cast to a long road of rehabilitation. Horsefly is an hour away from William's Lake, the nearest city. Once she is out of the hospital, her family will be undertaking the long term, ongoing struggle to see to it that she gets to physio as well as other tests she needs, most likely every day. Right now, they are simply thankful that Aly is alive, as am I. But I have cerebral palsy and required daily physio for most of my preteen life. I know how time and cost intensive it can be.

And so I am about to do something I never thought I would do.

If you are able, please donate to the paypal account below. I want to help them get their daughter home and make sure she walks again. I hope that there are others out there who do as well. If you do not wish to use paypal but do with to donate, please contact me at josiah.rose@gmail.com. This is real. Alyson is not a picture I photoshopped at random. This is not a scam. This is one girl who is on Alberta Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped trying to do something nice in the face of something terrible. If you wish proof, please contact me at the previous email address and I will see you get it, assuming you wish to help.

Click the button below to donate to the PayPal accont I have set up. I have not specified an amount, but please, remember...EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS !!!

If you cannot help financially, please send healing energy/good thoughts/warm fuzzies/prayers. At this point, Aly needs all the help she can get.

***Soon to be cross posted. My apologies to those who get this more than once but I realy want to do something tangable***

I dont suppose that there would be any one on this Community with access and information (when/where/cost) about Pagan Celebrations that happen around the city would there?
I'm just dismayed that yet another Summer Solstice passed me by, and the only person I can celebrate with is my super-busy mom.

Design opportunity.
Liquid Fish is an upcoming Calgary-based eclectic design company looking for someone with experience in fashion design to join the team. Creativity and originality are essential, as is a willingness to experiment and focus on the creation of new ideas rather than the constant recycling of old ones. You will be working with a team of three people, specialising in art and jewelry ranging from fetish wear to high-fashion. As such, it is preferable that your designs are dynamic, ranging in style and flavour. Some adult products will also be produced, so applicant must be comfortable with adult themes as well as the occult and rabid eccentricity. Individual must be hard-working and open-minded. You will be paid on the basis of what is sold with the company providing you with any supplies/materials you may need; commissions may apply. Products will be sold both locally and online. Males and/or females welcome to apply. Please email photographs of/or provide a direct link to your work to kalenight@gmail.com. Clothing only.

hello out there! i'm lindsey. i'm not much of a pagan, really - i do introvertive meditation work, mostly. but i'm interested in paganism in general and i could definitely use more knowledge. i don't even know which goddess i've been chatting with lately! so if any of you feel like starting up a teacher/student relationship, over the internet or in person, that would be wonderful.

i hope you have been enjoying our lovely weather! and if not, don't worry - it'll be nice and frosty again by monday.

hiya to all Canada
Dear CalgaryPagan
Im not a member of this journal but i have come across it a few times in the past year, and it was in part becasue i knew of this community, as a community for calgary, that we in winnipeg would not inteact much at all.
so I have created an LJ community just for Canada :)
I was thinking about expanding the amount of contact for those who might be interested.
Because there arent that many of us in Canada anyways (as compared to us/uk) ;)

It is called canadianpagan, and it is for anyone who identify as pagan/wicca/heathen/shaman/goddess/druids etc;
or anything at all related to earth centered spirituality in canada.

That is all. Hope to see your posts/comments. :)

Say No to Slaughterhouses!
The City of Calgary wants to put a Slaughterhouse IN the North-East of Calgary.

This is bad for a number of reasons, and will affect all of Calgary.

The facility will be operating between 4:00 am and midnight six days a week
500 head of cattle with an expected expansion to 1,600 head
Facility will hold 540 animals
25 deliveries of cattle per day in open cattle trailers
10 loads a day of waste removal (animal by products being shipped to Calgary Landfills)

Increased traffic, open cattle containers, landfills FILLED with slaughterhouse waste.

The cloying smell of blood in the air from animals being constantly killed. It'll stick to everything: you, your clothes, your house, your car.

The plant will use over 900,000 litres of water a day that will be returned to the City's sewage system full of blood and other animal by products.  The filtration process that the company has employed will remove the large chunks of animal flesh and hair, but does nothing to eliminate or pre-treat the biohazardous animal blood mixed in the water.

The City is already asking residents to limit their water use.. so let's just use 900,000 litres more a day?

Dream Speaks

Anyone know what hearing "wind
" in your dreams symbolizes? I've had two nights in a row with the
same sounding chimes in them. I used to know. Has slipped my mind.

Chiron Square Jupiter
A crisis of faith: activity period from end of January 2004 until end of November 2004.

This difficult time will test your spiritual or religious convictions. Even so, this influence is basically positive, because it will make you aware of any inconsistencies in your world view. It can also help you to see the detrimental effect on your personal well-being caused by relying too much on ideals, which will allow you to achieve a healthy degree of independence. You therefore now have a chance to either revive or rediscover your spiritual or philosophical freedom.
This influence could indicate an ongoing crisis of faith in which your highest ideals are called into question. You may come to realize that your motivations were not as altruistic as you would have liked to believe; you might also come to the conclusion that your ideals have been an attempt to compensate for, or cover up, any personal weaknesses. You might realize that you have been chasing after false prophets which have led you far from your own individual path.

It is as if you have been using your noble ideals to suppress the animalistic, physical side of your nature. These will now make their presence felt, demanding to be taken seriously. This will force you to change or expand your philosophical outlook, which in turn could cause you to make radical changes in your life. Whatever happens, this influence gives you an opportunity to examine whether your world view is compatible with all influences of your nature.

Welcome to...ME!
me: *SQUEAL!* CalgaryPagans!

I'm a 21 year old solitary wiccan, following a Faery-Green Witch path...I've only been studying Wicca for about a year, but looking back I realize I've been setting the path for it my whole life...making myself look eccentric in the eyes of my family so that I can get away with lots beneath their noses, etc.. Anyways, I'm delighted to find this community.

I also have a kind of a book of shadows journal, but it's mostly a place aside from my mundane journal that I can just grin and cry and put down prayers, thoughts, pictures, and all that good stuff that I just don't feel belongs in my mundane journal. it's chantreakennice, if anyone is interested.

bright blessings!

Meetings + Groups?

We've expressed some interest in hooking up and meeting each other. So when are people free?

I'm still fairly sick and hopefully getting into the doc this week, so let's not make any plans for this one... but as of next week, where are we? What's up? Anyone have any ideas?

As far as other upcoming Pagan events.. I'm only on a couple lists, so here's any that I know of - anyone else, post please!

- Thurs the 22nd is Pagan Paths, hosted by the Witchery, if anyone is interested in that.

And.. that's it. wow. Sad.

Are you guys a part of any online groups that you'd like to share?
The ones I'm in are:

A bit more on me...
Good evening all...

I am having one of those oh look I don't fit in anywhere days which tend to rather discouraging, so I thought I would cheer myself up by posting a bit better of an intro. I am 25 (at least chronologically). I live in the NE with two cats, a dog and two roomies. The pets have better manners than my roomies but what can you do *grin* Anyhoo, not sure how active the group is, but I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better. Do you do get togethers of any informal sort?
